Lost family found in NSW outback

AMSA's challenger aircraft and the bogged vehicle

Just before midday (AEST) on 9 August, NSW Police requested the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) provide assistance to locate a missing family of four driving between Tibooburra and Broken Hill on the Silver City Highway, in north-west NSW.

AMSA's Melbourne-based Challenger rescue aircraft was tasked to support the search.

Just before 5pm (AEST) the family and their bogged vehicle were located by a commercially operated helicopter from Moomba which was tasked by NSW Police.

 All four people were safe.

The Challenger aircraft remained overhead until the family was rescued.

All media enquiries should be directed to NSW Police.
